9 Different Types of Bags You Should Own

Handbags and purses are the perfect addition to any outfit, as any woman knows. But there are so many types to choose from, and they all sound similar.

How is a fashion-conscious woman to choose? We’ve got you covered with this handy guide to all things handbags!

Tote

This bag has an open top and often a rectangular shape. It has long, soft straps that make it perfect for slinging over your shoulder on a trip to the beach. It is large and deep, and can open very wide. This allows for easier inserting of items into the tote.

Satchel

Also known as a “postman bag,” satchels are perfect for the office with their many pockets and belt-like decorations. Many men bring satchels to work, so this is not a women-only style. Generally, satchels are made of high-quality, thick leathers, making them both durable and fashionable.

Hobo Bag

This bag is soft and slouchy, with a distinctively rounded shape and a shoulder strap. It is definitely a casual style of handbag. Its rounded style allows for many items to fit in the bag. The soft feel of it makes it easy to sling over your shoulder and take it anywhere.

Clutch

Small and often envelope-shaped, a clutch is perfect for minimalist evening wear. You can’t fit much in here, though! You could probably fit your phone, your keys, and your wallet in a clutch, but not much else. Still, for the perfect evening look we’re willing to give up the extra stuff. Who needs the excess weight anyway?

Crossbody Bag

As the name would suggest, the crossbody bag goes across one’s body. It has one long strap that is often of adjustable length for maximum comfort. The strap sits on one shoulder, crosses the body, and meets the bag itself on the other side of the body. It’s perfect for casual, everyday wear.

Backpack

This bag is worn on the back, with a strap for each shoulder. The bag itself rests on the back, hence its name. Most everything can fit in here, making it optimal for school and office use. Many smaller backpack purses have straps that can zip or button together to form a single shoulder strap, making the bag more of a crossbody.

Bucket Bag

As you may imagine, this bag has a shape similar to that of a bucket. It’s roomy, and often features an open top and shoulder strap. These have recently become more on-trend, and it’s not surprising! They’re cute, practical, and fashionable!

Wristlet

This bag is shaped very similarly to a clutch, except that it also has a small, thin strap to be hung on one’s wrist. This makes it slightly more practical than a clutch, because it frees up your hands. That being said, it doesn’t take away from your stylish evening wear look!

Duffel

Originally, this type of bag was used primarily by sailors. Why you may ask? Well, it’s large and roomy enough to fit just about anything! You could fit your whole life in this thing...and that’s what sailors did. Today, we can see how this bag would be perfect for sports and travel due to its size.
